Dickinson uses the metaphor of a funeral to describe her inner struggles. What metaphor would you use to describe your own mind?

Prompt Response:  I would describe my mind as a pit of desire. I feel like I constantly desire something, and when I fulfill that desire, another one comes up. I think this is something a lot of humans can relate to, but I definitely see it in myself. I feel like I always have some sort of goal throughout my life. A lot of these desires are things I cannot fulfill, but I still want them. Summary: Today we read two more Emily Dickenson poems. Reflection:  I feel like I have gotten better at analyzing poems.

Write about an adventure you would like to go on.

Prompt Response:  I think a really cool adventure to go on is climbing K2. It is extremely intimidating because it is a 1 in 4 death rate. I think if I were to attempt that right now I would surely die. If I were ever crazy enough to attempt this, I would probably do it in around 20 years. This is something that would be a very fulfilling accomplishment.  Summary: Today we read an Emily Dickenson poem and analyzed it. Reflection:  I learned about how influential Emily Dickenson was.

Describe something you will never fully understand.

Prompt: Something I will never understand is how whenever I learn a new word, I start to consistently hear it for the rest of the day. I learn what something means, or I hear a completely new word, and then I just happen to hear it over and over again. It is a really weird coincidence. Sometimes I think that it is the universe trying to reinforce the meaning of this word or something like that. Summary: Today we presented our origin myth posters. Reflection: Today I learned how creative my classmates can be.

Write about something that you wish you had more of.

Prompt Response:  I wish I had more time. There are many things that I like to do that make my daily schedule completely packed. I have to balance school, gym, climbing, work, homework, and sleep. I think that school goes on for way too long each day, and that if I had more time everyday I would be more happy and overall a more productive person. I also want more time because I think it is the most valuable thing in life. The whole reason everybody works is to stay alive, therfore have more time. Summary: Today we worked on our posters. Reflection:  Today I learned about what was in the Lakeside news.

What is the most creative thing you have ever made? Share what it was and explain why it stands out as your best work.

Prompt Response:  The most creative thing that I can think of is the book report project I did in 7th grade. We were tasked with making our book report a creative 3d model with bits of our book report on parts of the model. I make my book report into a mcdonalds happy meal. I had my main book report with setting and theme on the happy meal box, a list of characters on the box of paper fries, and the conflict on the drink. It sounds very simple, but it looked very impressive and it impressed my teacher. She put it on display in the hallway with all of her other favorite submissions. I felt very proud because as someone with very bad handwriting, I don't usually get very much praise for my art. Summary: Today we continued to work on our creation myths and started out poster for presentations. Reflection:  I learned that it helps to follow your set plan when writing.

Everyone has burning questions about life. Mysteries we wonder about but don’t always have clear answers for. Think about your biggest questions about existence, purpose, or the world around you. Write a blog post where you share at least two of your most burning questions about life and explain why these questions matter to you.

Prompt Response:  A lot of times I find myself in the shower wondering why anything even exists. I look around at my human limbs and wonder why specifically out of any kind of existence people look the way the do and the world looks the way it does. I also wonder why we have limited consciousness. I feel like it would be possible for the human mind to be able to think of anything, but it just simply isn't. Summary: Today we worked on our Creation Myths. Reflection:  I learned that it was important to plan out our stories.

Describe a time you felt completely lost.

Prompt Response:  One time I felt completely lost was when I went to Korea. I felt very out of place because I was in an unfamiliar country where I didn´t even know the language. I had no clue what any of the signs said so it was very strange being in the streets. It was definitely a fun experience but I certainly felt completely lost. Summary: Today we presented out ¨The Jealous Father¨ presentations. Reflection:  Today I learned that there was a lot of stuff to pick up on after looking deeper into the story.

Analyze how you’ve adapted to the demands of this course over the past week, and evaluate one strength and one challenge you anticipate as we progress, justifying your insights with personal examples.

Prompt Response:  I believe that I have adapted very well to this course over the past week. One strength that I can identify is that I am very comfortable with the workload in this class. I feel like the workload is perfectly manageable with all my other classes. One challenge I could potentially see myself running into is forgetting to do a blog one day. The blog posts are very simple, but I think it is likely to forget one day. Summary: Today we took a quiz on origin myths. After that, we used the rest of time in class to work on our presentations. Reflection:  I am very confident with creation myths. I got a perfect score on my quiz, so I think I have a good understanding as to what they are.

Prompt: Describe a real-life situation in which jealousy negatively affected a relationship you experienced.

Prompt Response:  Me and my friend were bowling and I ended up winning. He was pretty upset that he lost and he knocked over my soda and it spilt on the ground. I ended up asking him why he did that and he said he was really jealous that I beat him in bowling. I ended up forgiving him and he bought me a new soda. Summary: Today we worked on presentations about "The Jealous Father". Our presentation was specifically about the culture of the Cree tribe that was included in the short story. Reflection: Today I learned about the culture of the Cree people of Canada, specifically I learned a lot about their spiritual beliefs.

Write about a meaningful object or place in your life that carries a story.

Prompt Response:  A meaningful place to me is school. In general, I have spent a lot of time at Lakeside, and that comes with lots of memories and stories that I think about. In school, I have met so many people that have seriously affected my life outside of school. It has also helped give me guidance in what I like and dislike, along with giving me a routine to rely on. Overall, school has affected my life in almost every aspect and has led to me becoming the person that I am today. Summary: Today we read about and annotated the Navajo creation story. We also explored the theme of the story. Reflection:  Today I learned that a theme HAS to be a statement. Although I think I am pretty familiar with what a theme is, I think this still is helpful to know.

Write about a time you felt connected to nature, like the kinship in Native American myths.

Prompt Response:  One time I felt very connected to nature was when I went snorkeling. Being able to observe all the marine life felt very sentimental. I saw the plants in the water swaying around when I moved, and the fish swimming around. It all felt natural, which is why I felt so connected. Although it felt natural, it was still very beautiful to look at. Summary: Today we took notes on Native American literature and certain vocabulary words that will be on our upcoming test. Reflection:  Today I learned that in Native American literature, they view even inanimate objects as living and sacred.
