Prompt: Pick one of the connection based questions and answer it in your blog. Be sure to write out the question.

Prompt:  Question- How do you typically respond when people give you advice? Do you usually accept it, question it, or ignore it? Explain your reasoning. (pg. 118) Answer- I always take in advice that I receive. The extent to which I consider the advice is up to the credibility of the person. Additionally, even if somebody is extremely credible, I always question the advice that I receive. Summary: Today we read chapter 12. Reflection: I learned more about Chris's college life.

Based on the first 40 minutes of the film and Chapters 1–11 of the book, does the visual version of Chris’s journey make his choices seem more justified or more reckless than the text does? Explain how the medium (film vs writing) shapes your perspective.

Prompt: I think the film makes Chris out to be more reckless than he is. He seems more spontaneous due to that fact that the film spans around a couple hours. This makes it seem like is bouncing from place to place rather than settling in certain places for a little while. Summary: Today we watched the film adaptation of the book. Reflection: I saw Chris in a new light.

Think about a moment when your understanding of your family changed as you got older. How did that shift impact your perspective, and how does that connect to Chris’s realization about his parents in Chapter 11?

Prompt: My parents divorced the summer before my 11th grade. For a while I had known that they were unhappy in their marriage, but the divorce really underscored it. I realized that the only reason they had been together for the last decade or so was so that me and my sister would not grow up with split parents. This caused my respect for my parents to further as they waited to make that decision for my sake. I think this connects to Chris as his parents were also in constant disagreement. Summary: Today we read chapter 11. Reflection: I learned about Chris's parents.

Reflect on your reading of Into the Wild chapters 1–10. Which chapter stood out to you the most, and why? In your response, explain what specifically made this chapter meaningful, interesting, or impactful. You may consider elements such as McCandless’s actions, a key event, a theme, or Krakauer’s storytelling.

Prompt: I think that chapter 8 stood out to me the most. Hearing stories of the people similar to Chris was very intriguing. I was especially interested in the guy experimenting with different historical living styles. This chapter was very entertaining.  Summary: Today we took our assessment on chapters 1-10. Reflection: I think that I did very good on the test.

Chris McCandless rejects a traditional path of success and instead defines success on his own terms through freedom, experience, and personal meaning. Reflect on what success means to you at your current stage in life. In the response, explain how success is currently defined (grades, college acceptance, achievements, happiness, etc.) and where those ideas come from. Then, consider whether that definition truly reflects personal values or if it is shaped by expectations from family, school, or society.

Prompt: To me success has to do with my grades, but more importantly my happiness and self-fulfillment. I think that happiness is a lot more important than how much money you make in the future. Grades reflect discipline and hard-work, but not a happy life. I value my grades due to societal expectations. Summary: Today we answered each others questions and started chapters 9 and 10. Reflection: I honed my critical thinking skills.

Chris chooses independence over relationships. When have you chosen to be on your own instead of relying on others? What happened, and would you make the same choice again?

Prompt: I choose to be on my own rather than relying on others when it comes to schoolwork. When you rely on others in school you do not learn. When I am on my own I tend to succeed in my schoolwork. I always make this choice. Summary: Today we read chapter 8 and created our own questions. Reflection: Today I learned about people similar to McCandless.

Prompt: I would choose to keep my car, computer, and cell phone. These items are both very financially and sentimentally valuable to me. I also use these items on a daily basis. I think I would be the most upset if I had to give up my car.  Summary: Today we read chapter four of "Into The Wild" and did an assignment on it. Reflection: I learned more about McCandless' journey.

People sometimes feel the need to step away from their normal routines or environments in order to better understand themselves. Describe a time when you needed distance from a situation, place, or group of people in order to think more clearly or gain perspective. What did that experience teach you about yourself?

Prompt: Most days I typically go to the gym or I climb after school. On rare occasions I will choose not to do one of these things. I do this because I feel like I need a break to fully enjoy myself. These days give me clarity. Summary: Today we read chapters two and three of "Into The Wild" Reflection: I learned more about this captivating story.
