Prompt: Chris's desire for independence got him killed because it ultimately led to him being secluded, away from those who may be able to help him.  Prompt: My parents divorced the summer before my 11th grade. For a while I had known that they were unhappy in their marriage, but the divorce really underscored it. I realized that the only reason they had been together for the last decade or so was so that me and my sister would not grow up with split parents. This caused my respect for my parents to further as they waited to make that decision for my sake. I think this connects to Chris as his parents were also in constant disagreement. Summary: Today we read chapter 11. Reflection: I learned about Chris's parents.

Chris McCandless rejects a traditional path of success and instead defines success on his own terms through freedom, experience, and personal meaning. Reflect on what success means to you at your current stage in life. In the response, explain how success is currently defined (grades, college acceptance, achievements, happiness, etc.) and where those ideas come from. Then, consider whether that definition truly reflects personal values or if it is shaped by expectations from family, school, or society.

Prompt: To me success has to do with my grades, but more importantly my happiness and self-fulfillment. I think that happiness is a lot more important than how much money you make in the future. Grades reflect discipline and hard-work, but not a happy life. I value my grades due to societal expectations. Summary: Today we answered each others questions and started chapters 9 and 10. Reflection: I honed my critical thinking skills.
