 Prompt: I felt proud of my poster. When designing my poster I learned better techniques on Adobe Express for organization and art. My feedback made me realize I did a good job with these techniques. Summary: Today we did an assignment about A.I. and reviewed the posters of our classmates. Reflection: I learned about the influence of A.I. on school.

Reflect on the simile and metaphor worksheet. Which topic challenged you the most when creating your figurative language, and why? In your response, explain what made that topic difficult and how you worked through the challenge (or what you might do differently next time).

 My hardest topic to write about was writing about failure. I could not think of an exact example of when I had experienced failure that I came back from. It was also hard to come up with figurative language that had to do with this topic. I overcame this by not specifying a specific time in my simile. Summary: Today we worked on our digital posters. Reflection: I got better at writing similes.

Today you created similes and metaphors that reflect your struggles, growth, and resilience. In a well-developed paragraph, reflect on the process. What did you learn about yourself while writing your figurative language?

 Prompt: Initially I struggled with this assignment. At some point, however, I started having an easier time coming up with similes and metaphors about my life. When this happened, I began to enjoy the process of creating unique similes and metaphors. I think that this really helped me become a creative writer. Summary: Today I created similes and metaphors. Reflection: I learned things about myself.

Describe how you spent your time, any activities, traditions, travel, hobbies, or moments that stood out to you. You may also discuss something new you tried, something you learned, or how the break helped you reset before returning to school. Keep your response appropriate for a school setting and focus on experiences you are comfortable sharing publicly

Prompt: I did not do anything too out of the ordinary over break. I usually stayed home or I went out with friends. This is the way I wanted my break to be. I used my break to get plenty of rest and come back to schools feeling refreshed. Summary: Today we read a Maya Angelou poem. Reflection: I learned about a new poet.

If you had to describe how you show love using only three objects (for example: a playlist, a hoodie, a late-night snack, a long text message, etc.), what would you choose and why? Explain what each object represents and how it connects to your personality

 I would choose a playlist, text message, and a meal. I enjoy listening to music so I would choose the playlist. I like expressing myself in a typed format so I would choose the text message. Lastly, I would choose a meal because I enjoy making food.

Now that you have completed the rhetorical analysis essay, reflect on your growth. Explain how this experience impacted your confidence as a writer and whether you feel prepared to continue analyzing complex speeches and texts in American Literature.   Prompt Response:  I feel more confident as a writer. I am a lot more qualified when writing a rhetorical analysis. I also think I am more qualified overall as a writer. Summary: Today we wrote our essay. Reflection:  I think I wrote a good essay.

 Prompt: The brainstorming phase is very important. It defines your entire essay. It also takes a large load off of your shoulders so you can just get right into writing. Summary: Today we continued working on our essay prep. Reflection: I prepared myself for my essay.

In the spirit of Valentine’s Day week, describe your idea of a perfect day spent with someone you care about (a friend, family member, or significant person in your life).

  Prompt Response:  I would like to spend a perfect day with my girlfriend. My idea of a perfect day would generally be to stay at home. Hopefully we would eat good food and watch some TV. Summary: Today we started our essay prep. Reflection:  I prepared myself for my rhetorical essay.

What is the best piece of advice of that your parent or guardian has given you? Tell what the advice was and what prompted you to ask the question.

 Prompt: The best advice that I have gotten from a parent or guardian was to stay on top of my grades. Grades are very important for my future so I must maintain them. This was the response after I asked what I should worry about the most right now. Summary: Today we analyzed a poem. Reflection: I learned how to interpret parts of a poem.

What is the most challenging part of working in a group? Discuss a time when a group assignment did not go as well as you planned and how you learned from that experience.

 The most challenging part about working in a group is trusting the other members in the group to do their part. Sometimes your group members may be irresponsible. Last semester I dealt with this problem and I learned that I need to be more considerate when choosing my group members. Summary: Today we graded other essays. Reflection: I now understand better what I need to do to get a good grade on my essay.

What is the most challenging part of writing an essay for you? Is it brainstorming, organizing ideas, writing a strong thesis, or something else? How do you plan to overcome this challenge?

Prompt: The most challenging part of writing an essay for me is organizing my ideas. It is sometimes hard to figure out how I want to support my thesis. I plan to overcome this by practicing organizing my ideas. Summary: Today we wrote body paragraphs for a rhetorical essay. Reflection: I learned how to better write my body paragraphs.

Describe a real moment in your life that felt like the beginning of a powerful story. Tell what happened, and why it felt like a turning point in your life?

 Prompt: A moment that felt like a turning point in my life was when the school year started. The beginning of the school year always seems like the introduction to a new story. I meet new people, learn new things, and grow personally. Summary: Today we wrote body paragraphs for our rhetoric essay. Reflection: I learned how to make a good body paragraphs.  

If you had to write a poem about your life RIGHT NOW, what would it be about? Explain your answer in at least 4 to 5 sentences.

  Prompt Response:  I would describe my life as pleasant, yet confusing. Recently I have become very concerned about my future. I enjoy the way things are right now, but they will soon change; and I must figure out how I want to live in the future. The poem would be about exploring many options for my future. Summary: Today we did notes and did Commonlit assignments. Reflection:  I need to get these notes from a friend, as I was not at school yesterday.

When you are in a mood that you do not like, what are some strategies that you use to change your mood?

  Prompt Response:  I typically do things that I enjoy to help with my mood. Sometimes I will also connect with some of my favorite people. Another thing that I have started to do recently is deep breathing. I found that breathing has a surprising effect on your mood. Summary: Today we did a NewsELA assignment. Reflection:  I learned why ice is slippery.

Describe your personal approach to creativity. What steps do you follow when you’re working on a project. Tell me about a project you created that you were most proud of.

  Prompt Response:  When I am working on a project, I typically create a loose plan in my head on what I want to do and how I will do it. This helps me stay on track and avoid wasting time. I was most proud of a project I made in 8th grade. I made a very impressive civil war diorama. This project was of a quality I never thought that I could achieve. I also really enjoyed making the project because I really enjoy history. Summary: Today we did a vocabulary assignment. Reflection:  I learned new words that I can use in my writing.
