Prompt: In the poem, the speaker and his neighbor meet each year to repair a wall. Describe a time when you had to set or respect a boundary with a friend, family member, or classmate. How did it help or hurt your connection with that person?

Prompt: My friend would ask to hangout very frequently. This sounds very normal, but it got to the point where it seemed like it would take up too much of my free time. At some point I decided to tell him that even though I enjoy his company, I do not want to hangout so often because I enjoyed my privacy as well. He understood and it positively affected out relationship because It makes hanging out more valuable. Summary: Today we did a Commonlit on the "Mending wall" by Robert Frost Reflection: I learned that it is important to question things, rather than to just accept them.

Prompt: Both poems by Robert Frost explore the passage of time and life’s changing moments. Write about a time when something in your life changed more quickly than you expected. How does this experience connect to Frost’s idea that “Nothing gold can stay”?

Prompt Response:  Over the summer my parents got divorced. When they told me that this would be happening I was in total shock because the news just came out of the blue. My parents had to sell the house to be able to afford separate places. I figured it would take all summer to move out of the house and find a new place to live for both parents, but it only took around a month. It happened so fast I feel like I did not have very much time to process it. This connects to "Nothing gold can stay" because the beauty of having a "regular" family had come to an end before I could even realize. Summary: Today we read more Robert Frost poems. Reflection:  I learned to enjoy beauty while it is there because it does not last forever.

Prompt: As we think about our upcoming Vocabulary Monday, tell me what is your favorite word RIGHT NOW? Why is it your faovorite word and how often do you use it?

Prompt; I do not think that I necessarily have a favorite word, but a word I really enjoy is "serendipity". This word means a chain of events that happens in a favorable way. I enjoy this word not just because of its meaning but because it shows how the English language can have such specific words to use in very niche situations. I feel like that is the beauty in learning new vocabulary because it is so satisfying to use such words when it fits perfectly. Summary: Today we spent the whole period working on our "Birches" presentations. Reflection: I felt more connected with my childhood memories while working on my project.

In “Birches,” Robert Frost celebrates imagination as a way to escape life’s difficulties and reconnect with innocence. The speaker wishes to “get away from earth awhile” but also understands that he must eventually return to reality. Think about the role of imagination in your own life. How does imagination help you cope with challenges, boredom, or stress?

Prompt: Imagination is the best way for me to cope with boredom. When I am bored I am typically in a situation where I do not have much around me to occupy myself with. This is what makes imagination so useful. It allows me to entertain myself by creating stories or different realities in my head. Summary: Today we read "Birches" by Robert Frost and started out presentations about it. Reflection: I felt that the message that you can always restart in life was very meaningful.

After reading “Out, Out—” by Robert Frost, reflect on a time when you faced a dangerous or high-pressure situation that demanded your complete focus. What made the situation risky, and how did your concentration affect the outcome?

Prompt Response:  One day when I walked into the garage, I noticed a large black snake on the wall. My dad was with me and we knew we had to deal with this quickly. I grabbed a stick and reluctantly picked up the snake. We walked the snake down our driveway and walked down the whole street to release it. The whole process went smoothly but it was a very unusual and tense situation. Summary: Today we read and annotated "Out, Out" by Robert Frost Reflection: I learned what going to the ether meant.

Prompt: Write about what you did over the Fall Break.

Prompt Response:  Over fall break I was invited to go to a mountain house with my friends. It was a very fun three day trip. The house had a game room where we spent a lot of time playing pool. We went on hikes and also fished since the house was lakeside. After that trip I spent most of it hanging out with my friends and family. Summary: Today we worked on our vocabulary comic strip. Reflection:  I learned a few new words from the vocabulary.

How do you find time to enjoy your day, even when you have a lot going on? Write about at least three specific things you do to enjoy small moments throughout your day.

Prompt: Everyday I engage in some sort of physical activity, being either going to the gym or climbing. I find a lot of joy in my physical activities and always look forward to doing them after school. I also find a lot of joy in seeing my friends at school. Seeing my friends is my favorite part about being at school. I also find fun in going on walks with Olivia around our neighborhood. It has been especially nice recently because I am able to enjoy the cool fall weather. Summary: Today we finished our "Ambush" paragraphs. Reflection: Today I learned not to say the name of the author, but to say "the speaker".

Prompt: Describe a time when someone’s words had a lasting impact on you.

Prompt Response:  One day my grandpa told me that knowledge was power. This stuck with me because I thought about how knowledge could take you practically anywhere. If you know enough about something, you could become great at it. Knowledge also carries you in your everyday life. Summary:Today we worked on our "Ambush" paragraph. Reflection:  I learned what makes good evidence and what doesn't.

Write about a moment when you had to step out of your comfort zone.

Prompt: I had to step out of my comfort zone when I rode acrophobia as Six Flags. The ride is a giant tower that takes you up around 200 feet and then drops you. I was dreading the idea of going on it the entire time me and my friends were at the park. Once we got on it, my stomach had butterflies. The ride brought us up, and at the top I was terrified. By the time it had dropped us though, I had barely even realized it happened. Summary: Today we worked on our "Ambush" paragraphs.  Reflection: I had to thing for a while about if there is such a thing as a good kill or not.

Write about a dream that felt real.

Prompt Response:  The most recent dream that I can think of that felt real was a dream that quite literally scared me awake. I very rarely get scared from my dreams, so this one was quite memorable. I do not remember the events leading up to it but I remember I was in a dark empty room. The thing that woke me up was a giant spider jumping on my face. I woke up the second it made contact with my face. Summary: Today we did our vocabulary 3 assignment. Reflection:  I learned some more words I can use in my formal writing.

Write about something you’ve always been curious about.

Prompt Response:  I have always been curious about history. History is my favorite subject in school because it is extremely interesting seeing how things in the far past have affected things today. I am always curious about any kind of history. I view history a lot of times like I am hearing a story rather than learning a lesson. Summary: Today we finished our unpopular opinion paragraphs. Reflection:  I learned how I can use my words when creating evidence from my own observations.

Write about the best gift you have received

Prompt Response:  The best gift I had ever received is my phone. I had gotten my iPhone 11 for my birthday before 7th grade. I think this is the best gift I had ever received because I use it for multiple hours a day ever since the day I had gotten it. It is an essential part of my life and it would be a lot harder without it. Summary: We started our unpopular opinion paragraphs. Reflection:  I learned how to cite evidence.

Write about a conversation that changed you.

Prompt Response:  A conversation that changed me was between me and my friends when we talked about career choices and future life. We had discussed what we might want to do in the future. We also talked about future living situations. It was an important talk that somewhat helped me find my life path. Summary: Today we did our writing evidence assignment. Reflection:  I learned a bit about sourcing today.

Write about something that you believed as a child

Prompt Response:  I used to believe in Santa as a child. I believed in Santa until I was 10 years old. I was very skeptical of Santa already for a couple years before this. At some point, I decided in the car to ask my mom about if Santa was real or not. She told me the truth and I had not believed in Santa since. Summary: Today we worked on our vocabulary lesson two. Reflection:  I learned a lot of words that I can include in my formal writing.
