In Into the Wild, Christopher McCandless gives up many of his possessions in pursuit of freedom and meaningful experiences. If you had to simplify your life and keep only a few important possessions, what would you keep and why? What would be hardest to leave behind?

Prompt: I would choose to keep my car, computer, and cell phone. These items are both very financially and sentimentally valuable to me. I also use these items on a daily basis. I think I would be the most upset if I had to give up my car.  Summary: Today we read chapter four of "Into The Wild" and did an assignment on it. Reflection: I learned more about McCandless' journey.

People sometimes feel the need to step away from their normal routines or environments in order to better understand themselves. Describe a time when you needed distance from a situation, place, or group of people in order to think more clearly or gain perspective. What did that experience teach you about yourself?

Prompt: Most days I typically go to the gym or I climb after school. On rare occasions I will choose not to do one of these things. I do this because I feel like I need a break to fully enjoy myself. These days give me clarity. Summary: Today we read chapters two and three of "Into The Wild" Reflection: I learned more about this captivating story.

After reading Chapter 1 of Into the Wild, consider your first impression of Christopher McCandless. Based solely on the events and details presented in this opening chapter, do you believe McCandless truly understood the risks he was taking when he entered the Alaskan wilderness? Why or why not?

Prompt: Chris McCandless seems like a very odd person. I do like his character. I also think that he did not fully understand the risk of entering the Alaskan wilderness. He did not fully prepared for this endeavor.  Summary: Today we read the first chapter of "Into The Wild" Reflection: I learned about Chris McCandless.

Today you worked on creating your Vocabulary Digital Cards in Adobe Express. In one well-developed paragraph, reflect on the assignment by explaining which vocabulary word was easiest for you to understand, which word was most challenging, and how creating your own sentence and selecting an image helped strengthen your understanding of the vocabulary. Use specific examples from your work.

Prompt: The word "pervasive" was the easiest for me to understand because I already knew the word. For this word I used the sentence, "Poverty was pervasive in the underdeveloped city". The hardest word for me was the word "toady". This was a word that I had never heard of. For this word I used the sentence, "His reputation was reinforced by his gaggle of toadies". Summary: Today we worked on the digital vocabulary cards assignment. Reflection: I learned new words today.

After viewing your classmates’ digital posters and reading the feedback comments left on your work, what new ideas or perspectives did you gain about your poster? Reflect on how the feedback influenced the way you think about your creative choices and describe what you learned about the creative process while designing and presenting your poster.

Prompt: I felt proud of my poster. When designing my poster I learned better techniques on Adobe Express for organization and art. My feedback made me realize I did a good job with these techniques. Summary: Today we did an assignment about A.I. and reviewed the posters of our classmates. Reflection: I learned about the influence of A.I. on school.

Reflect on the simile and metaphor worksheet. Which topic challenged you the most when creating your figurative language, and why? In your response, explain what made that topic difficult and how you worked through the challenge (or what you might do differently next time).

My hardest topic to write about was writing about failure. I could not think of an exact example of when I had experienced failure that I came back from. It was also hard to come up with figurative language that had to do with this topic. I overcame this by not specifying a specific time in my simile. Summary: Today we worked on our digital posters. Reflection: I got better at writing similes.

Today you created similes and metaphors that reflect your struggles, growth, and resilience. In a well-developed paragraph, reflect on the process. What did you learn about yourself while writing your figurative language?

Prompt: Initially I struggled with this assignment. At some point, however, I started having an easier time coming up with similes and metaphors about my life. When this happened, I began to enjoy the process of creating unique similes and metaphors. I think that this really helped me become a creative writer. Summary: Today I created similes and metaphors. Reflection: I learned things about myself.
